Modified Magnetron/ With Vacuum Exhaust
1st Experiment
This is my notes for my first attempt to test the modified magnetron shown in the upper left photo; the lower shows the experimental
setup. A Welch two stage 1400 vacuum pump was used; from the photo it can be seen that the magnetron vacuum exhaust connects to the
pump intake. The
experimental pulse modulator was used for driving the cathode; the photos are contained in the
PDF note.. Note
that no TC vacuum gauge was used during this quick experimental test.
Based on my experimental self ion pumped magnetrons, I observed very short RF emission when operated in cold cathode mode.
The next photo , TOP, shows a close up of the magnetron; the vacuum exhaust and the pulse transformer. The lower photos shows
both heater terminals shorted in the cold cathode mode.
The last photos: TOP; cathode pulse waveforms for voltage and current, MIDDLE; RF output, BOTTOM; RF sensor.
