An enlarged view of the PFN board is illustrated below; the board (2.2” square) is illustrated as see through so that the top capacitor
mounted components and bottom inductor components can be seen in their relative positions; the PFN schematic is repeated for illustrative
convenience:
6229 Magnetron Experimental Basic System Prototype II
Part 2
C4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 each is composed of three Panasonic 560 pF @ 3KV high voltage ceramic capacitors ( giving total paralled capacitance
of 1.68 pF) as illustrated below:
The inductors were constructed by winding magnet wire on 1 “ OD plastic tubing cut to 0.5” leangths each; 4 1/2 turns ~ # 22 magnet
wire giving an inductance of approximately 1 uH.
It should be noted that the inductors (see previous page) when mounted on the circuit board are oriented so as to minimize coupling
between the inductors maintain the Rayleigh line configuration as close as possible with9in the size limits of the circuit board.
The
PFN photo and illustration are laid side by side and labeled as a visual aid.
